What are the biggest benefits of minimalist living?

Relief

I grew up with parents who were children of the Depression so when we cleaned out their house in preparation for a move, I appreciated their sense of thrift and ingenuity that got them through hard times. However, having to sort through somethings that they had been “saving for me” and having to review things that may or may not have had bad memories for me, I found it extremely emotionally and physically draining to have to clean it out. I then purposed that what would be left of our lives to our children to deal with are items that my husband and I honestly use. Now, what is in our home are things that we use and enjoy. We buy minimally and continue to rotate out things we don’t use. It has been very freeing and provided release from physical clutter but also mental and emotional clutter. Also, there is less to dust!
